About the Artist:
Zhi Fei has been interested in art and drawing for many years, and is currently actively involved in several local art and watercolour groups. Since 2004, he has also taught drawing and watercolour courses. Zhi Fei’s work has been recognised and awarded at several junior national art competitions, and he has exhibited locally and abroad together with the Pachui Art Society, the Scenic Rangers, the Singapore Art Federation, the Singapore Watercolour Society, and the China Shantou Watercolour Society.

He regularly organise twice-weekly activities for a plein air watercolour group, Scenic Rangers, as well as bi-monthly still life sessions for my local watercolour society. He has also been an organiser and tour leader for multiple overseas sketching and art trips, and locations have included Malaysia (Sekinchan Fishing Village; Kuantan), Thailand (Bangkok; Ayutthaya), and China (Shantou).

His area of specialty in sketching:

- Street scenes in charcoal sketch and watercolour light wash
- Seascapes in watercolour and charcoal sketch
- Atmospheric Toning in Charcoal

About the Workshop:
Discover your world with Charcoal into a compilation of a journal. This 3-hour basic course will equip you with expressing your visual encounters and observations using simple drawing techniques and usage of the variation tones of the charcoal.

In this workshop, participants will get an introduction to the medium of charcoal, and experience first-hand this dry medium’s ability to render wonderfully atmospheric and expressive results. We will be covering the basic handling techniques required for successful charcoal sketching and participants will get the opportunity to apply what they have learnt to their own charcoal sketch into a compilation of journal.
