About the Instructor
For Mr Tham, sketch journaling has been a passion since young and which he had pursued and teaching actively since his retirement in 2007 from Singapore Airlines.
He learnt art on his own by experimenting and reading, prompted by graffiti drawings he saw as a child on the pillars of kampung houses in his Telok Blangah neighbourhood.
Even on the go, a pocket-size fountain pen and a water brush pen nestled in his wallet and daily activities - bus rides and hawker centre meals included - are captured in a pocket sketchbook.
About the Workshop
Landscape paintings are depicting reality in its purest form. Inspired by the beauty of nature and their surroundings, painters usually paint exactly what they see. Landscape painting doesn’t require much of an imagination, because it only takes one to go out of their home or their studio and there it is – inspiration is all around them, whether they live in the city and they want to capture an urban atmosphere in their sketch or they step outside their living space and get out there looking for some untouched nature to transfer it to canvas in all its glory.
Students will be able to:
- Analyze the relationship between the human and natural world presented in a work of art;
- Identify ways artist use viewpoint, scale, and detail to communicate ideas; and
- Create a work of art highlighting the relationship between humans and the natural world.
