About the Instructor
Queenie Kou is a Singaporean artist whose personal art journey began with an interest in drawing as a child. There were no formal art lessons offered in schools during her schooldays but that did not deter her from creating illustrations for her homework at every opportunity.
Amidst her busy working life, she took time off weekly to engage in some form of creative outlet, be it drawing, painting, sewing, jewellery making, pottery or sculpture. In 1993, she completed a two-year Certificate of Western Art programme at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. In 2015, Queenie decided to devote herself fully to drawing and painting, after a long hiatus because of work. She now paints in oil, acrylics, watercolour, pastel as well as in mixed media. Her paintings have been featured at several local exhibitions. A certified teacher with the Ministry of Education, her love for teaching has also seen her engaged in art teaching projects in Singapore, island wide.
About the Workshop
Mixed media is a term that means using more than one visual medium in a work of art. For example, if you draw with ink, then paint over it with watercolour, then add some highlight using pastel pencils, that is mixed media! Pablo Picasso was one of the first to introduce this art form in 1912 when he used collages in his paintings. Since then it had became very popular with artists who like to incorporate different material and medium into their artwork.
In this workshop, you will
1. Be introduced to a variety of mixed media materials
2. Learn variety of mixed media techniques
3. Use these techniques to create a painting
